Generations of residents and visitors to Copake Lake will recall the excitement of watching Mickey’s amphibious airplane—a 1943 Grumman Widgeon—landing and taking off from his seaplane base at the southern end of the lake. Mickey first scouted the location for his Copake home from the air in 1978, and then developed not only his own homesite, but also homes for others around the lake, including on the Island and on Juliana Drive. Today, Mickey’s wife, children and grandchildren still enjoy living on the lake, surrounded by its beauty and a lifetime of incredible memories.
Flying was a great passion of Mickey’s. In addition to piloting the seaplane, he also flew a bright red Great Lakes biplane from his grass airstrip. When not in the cockpit, Mickey could often be found sitting at the piano playing jazz with a glass of his favorite Scotch close at hand.
Another one of Mickey’s passions was sharing good food with friends, and so we can’t think of a name better suited for this establishment than ‘MICKEY’S MARINA!
